John Hoyland

John Hoyland is one of the leading abstract painters in the world today. He first rose to prominence in the 1960s, was included in the seminal 1960 exhibition Situation, held a major solo show at the Whitechapel in 1967, and represented Britain alongside Anthony Caro at the 1969 São Paulo Biennale. Retrospectives of his work have been held at The Serpentine, London (1979-80) and Tate, St Ives (2006). His work is in important private and public collections both within the UK and abroad.
